Summary Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission dismisses objections, upholds victories of PPP, PML-N and independent candidates in disputed constituencies

SKARDU (Web Desk) - The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has rejected petitions challenging election results and upheld the victories of several candidates in disputed constituencies.

According to the decisions issued by Chief Election Commissioner Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz, a request for recounting in GBLA-17 Diamer-III was dismissed, and the victory of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Muhammad Naseem was maintained.

The commission also rejected objections regarding GBLA-18 Diamer-IV, allowing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Kefayat-ur-Rehman to retain his victory. Similarly, objections against the result of GBLA-14 Astore-II were dismissed, with the success of PML-N’s Rana Muhammad Farooq upheld.

The Election Commission further stated that objections against GBLA-20 Ghizer-II were rejected, maintaining the victory of PML-N candidate Abdul Jahan. The result of GBLA-19 Ghizer-I was also upheld, with PPP’s Syed Jalal Shah retaining his seat.

In other cases, the commission dismissed objections against GBLA-15 Diamer-I and upheld the victory of independent candidate Dilpazeer. The result of GBLA-5 Nagar-I was also maintained, allowing PPP’s Zulfiqar Ali Murad to retain his seat.

However, in GBLA-16 Diamer-II, the commission rejected a request for re-polling filed by independent candidate Imam Malik but ordered the counting of postal ballots.

The decisions are expected to bring clarity to several election disputes that had remained pending after the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
